Firewood and Kindling
All of the wood that we use as fuel at J and J is responsibly sourced and sustainable.
We buy our timber in full loads and it arrives with us as felled trees. We have a mixture of oak, ash, and beech, so all of our logs are hardwood which ensures longer burn time and lower fuel bills for the customer.
We then slice and split all of our logs ourselves to between 8 to 10 inches or 200 – 250mm. This ensures that they are the perfect size for fire wood logs. The logs are then dried to ensure that they have a moisture content of less than 20% which enables the log to burn more efficiently. This results in lower smoke and emissions as well as maximum heat into your home.
We have our own drying kiln which enables us to ensure that the logs we sell are all Ready to Burn. We season the logs first before drying them to the required level in the kiln. This reduces the amount of time that the kiln is used, reducing the amount of carbon that we create drying the logs. We run our kiln on waste that we create while cutting and splitting the logs to make our environmental footprint as small as possible.
We sell our hardwood logs in net bags, loose in 130 litre bags, or in bulk builders bags.
Our kindling is made from untreated soft white wood. We source this from either our local saw mill as offcuts or used and damaged pallets. We then split the timber into perfect kindling sizes and dry it to ensure that it lights your fire first time every time. By recycling used timber we are making every effort to reduce our environmental impact, saving timber that could end up in landfill.
