The Gemserve research sampled 28 different types of housing each with different levels of insulation, double glazing and various exterior materials. This presented a large sample for review.
The research is conducted if people use zonal heating for 3 hours a day 5 days a week. However, obviously many people use their stoves for lots longer therefore the savings would be on a much bigger scale.
The conclusion was that using zonal heating and smokeless fuel saved the typical household on average £159 per year.
With that said, the bigger the home and the older the property, the savings would be considerably more.

Other Benefits Of Zonal Heating

In addition to saving money, further benefits are a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 10% using smokeless fuel and coal.
A further 10% reduction is obtained if using dry timber and gas.
